"He who has health, has hope. And he who has hope, has everything." – Arabian Proverb

Synergy Rehabs takes pride in providing the finest chiropractic care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different chiropractic services we offer in our Downers Grove office.

Chiropractic

According to The Association of Chiropractic Colleges, "Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs and surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health."

Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, joint pain, and headaches.

The most common therapeutic procedure performed is known as “spinal manipulation” or “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

What to Expect

There are many chiropractic techniques. Sometimes a specific, highly-accurate thrust is used. Or an instrument delivers carefully directed energy. Or a slow, constant pressure is used. Several areas may be adjusted, or just one.

At Synergy Rehabs chiropractic is used to treat:

  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Arthritis
  • Whiplash
  • Disc Injuries
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Wrist Pain

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called "qi"(pronounced "chee"). The Chinese believe that an imbalance of qi (too much, too little, or blocked flow) causes disease. Acupuncture is a technique that uses needles to restore balance to the qi, by opening the channels and meridians where energy flows.

Benefits of Acupuncture

Acupuncture provides safe help for a wide range of health problems including chronic and acute pain. Acupuncture also has very few side effects and is a useful alternative for patients who do not want to take pain medications. The aim is not only to eliminate or alleviate symptoms, but more importantly to treat the underlying cause, increase the ability to function and improve the quality of life.

What to Expect

Dr. Brewer stimulates the acu-points by inserting very thin needles through the skin to produce physiological effects. The gentle and expert placement and number of needles used during your treatment is individualized based on disease, patient and season. Treatment typically lasts 20-30 minutes. Upon insertion, you may feel a slight pinch which should subside almost immediately. Once the needle is inserted, there should be no pain.

Rehabilitation

Physical Rehabilitation is a medical specialty that involves the process of restoring function for a person who has been disabled as a result of a disease, disorder, or injury.

Synergy rehabs’ goal is to build strength and stability around your most vulnerable areas, while improving mobility, balance and joint function to decrease the potential for injuries. We believe in improving posture and alignment to allow your joints to move more efficiently to build up your most injury-prone areas to prevent acute and chronic pain.

Water/Aquatic Rehabilitation

Water provides an environment in which individuals can perform movements which would be impossible or painful if attempted on land. For this reason, balance training, range of motion exercise, biomechanical training, strengthening and gait training can be initiated immediately in the rehabilitation process.

Synergy rehabs’ water therapy involves use of the entire body, not just the injured part, thereby enhancing overall conditioning for the general public and athletes alike.

Water therapy can benefit:

  • Low Back Pain
  • Extremity pain
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Tendonitis
  • Joint pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Disc injuries
  • Neck pain
  • Post-surgical conditions
  • Hip/Knee replacement

Therapeutic Massage and Soft Tissue Mobilization

Therapeutic massage is the manipulation of muscle and connective tissue to enhance the function of those tissues and promote relaxation and well-being. It can ease tension and reduce pain. Massage can also be highly effective for reducing the symptoms of arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other disorders of the muscles and/or nervous system.

Mobilization is a hands-on manual therapy designed to restore joint movement, power, and range of motion. Tightness in joints may also restrict the flow of blood, lymph, and nerve signals in the area. Soft tissues around the bone need to be stretched in order to improve or restore range of motion.
